The CLASS Project is a new opportunity to expand educators’ career options and provide educators with additional compensation for individual and/or team excellence. The Chalkboard Project (link) has selected three Oregon school districts – Forest Grove, Sherwood, and Tillamook– to be the first to receive planning grants for the CLASS Project pilot program. Each district has received a grant to develop a district-specific pilot program that expands career paths for teachers. How will the CLASS Project work?
Since receiving the $30,000 planning-phase grant, a team of teachers and administrators from FGSD has been meeting to design its own program based on input from teachers and staff, administrators and other stakeholders. Once design is complete, each district will present its plan and potentially receive an implementation award of $200,000 to $400,000 for the three-year duration of the pilot. Why is this project needed?
To raise student achievement, we need to better support Oregon educators. To attract and retain highly qualified educators, we must make teacher career paths and compensation options more attractive. We must make sure great teachers have the chance to move up the career ladder to peer leadership positions. We must make sure educators have time to collaborate and share great practices so they feel supported in meeting classroom challenges. |
