Welcome!
School Board meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at the District Office, unless otherwise specified. Work sessions are scheduled from 5:30-7:00 p.m. followed by a business meeting at 7:00 p.m. Regular meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. All board meetings, except executive sessions, are open to the public. The Board invites district citizens to attend meetings and share their ideas and opinions.
Persons having questions about or requests for special needs and accommodation, such as interpretation, should contact the Superintendent's Office at the Forest Grove School District, 1728 Main Street, Forest Grove, OR 97116, 503-359-2406 or TDD 503-359-2518. Contact should be made 48 hours in advance of the event.
Discussion In Advance Is Helpful...
When a person wishes to bring a matter to the attention of the Board, it is recommended but not required that the matter first be discussed with the district superintendent. Prior discussion provides time for the superintendent to gather relevant information in order that the Board may give the matter adequate consideration. Members of the public may ask the superintendent to place an item of concern on the Board meeting agenda. The request should be made in writing to the superintendent at least seven working days before the scheduled meeting.
...But Not Required
During regular Board meetings, members of the public are specifically invited to present their views in the "Unscheduled Public Appearance" section of the agenda. Audience members are encouraged but not required to sign up before the meeting using a list provided for that purpose. Because Board members may not be familiar with an issue, they may not be able to respond at the time it is presented. However, the issue will receive study, and a response will be forthcoming. If members of the public wish to address an item that already is on the agenda, they may do so when the item comes up for discussion by the Board.
Procedures for Addressing The Board
The Board chairperson will invite members of the public to speak during the meeting. Any person who is invited to speak should:
- State his/her name and address, and the topic to be addressed.
- If representing an organization or group, the speaker should identify it. A spokesperson should be designated to speak for a group of people who come before the Board with a common purpose.
- Written material for the Board should be given to the Board secretary for distribution.
- The Board requests that patrons limit their comments to two to three minutes.
- The Board often does not respond to patron comments on the spot. This allows the Board additional time to research and reflect on particular issues.
Presenting Petitions
Petitions may be accepted at any Board meeting. No action will be taken in response to a petition before the next regular meeting. Petitions will be referred to the superintendent for consideration and recommendation.
Criticism Of Staff Members
Speakers may offer objective criticism of district operations and programs, but the Board will not hear complaints concerning individual district personnel. The chairperson will direct the visitor to appropriate means for Board consideration and disposal of legitimate complaints involving individuals.
How To Get Copies Of Board Meeting Agendas
